Jan-Lennard Struff failed in Paris-Bercy

Jan-Lennard Struff failed in round one in Paris-Bercy. The 33-year-old from Warstein lost to Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, who won the tournament in Basel on Sunday, 6:7 (3), 4:6. Struff, who had to admit defeat after 1:40 hours, showed good signs again, but is still looking for the brilliant form of the first half of the season. Before his long break due to hip problems, Struff had reached the Masters final in Madrid at the beginning of May and the final in Stuttgart in June.

With a lot of effort, Alexander Zverev reached the second round of the last 1000 of the year and remains on track in the race for the ATP Finals. Despite a long disappointing performance, the Olympic tennis champion defeated the Hungarian qualifier Marton Fucsovics 4:6, 7:5, 6:4 at the start on Tuesday. In the second round, Zverev will face the Frenchman Ugo Humbert or Marcos Giron (USA).

Daniel Altmaier mastered his opening hurdle much more confidently – and the 25-year-old from Kempen is now in the round of 16. Altmaier defeated the talented Frenchman Arthur Fils (19) 6:2, 6:4 and would actually have met ninth-seeded American Taylor Fritz in the second round, one of Zverev’s pursuers in the race to take part in the season finale. Fritz, however, withdrew from the tournament on Tuesday due to an abdominal injury.

Zverev in seventh place in the race

After his game, Zverev struggled with unusual conditions on the hard court. “I’ve never played on a court where the ball bounces so low,” he said: “I didn’t know how to deal with it at the beginning, it was a very difficult match for me. But in the end I got to my level found.”

Zverev’s stated goal is to qualify for the season finale of the eight best of the year in Turin (November 12th to 19th). Despite a few setbacks in recent weeks, the man from Hamburg is currently in seventh place in the race to take part in the ATP Finals, but if he were to be eliminated early at the last Masters tournament of the season in Paris-Bercy, he would open the door to his competitors again.
