When Jadon Sancho moved from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United in the summer of 2021, the fans of the tumbling English record champions saw him as something of a figurehead of change. Sancho, then just 21 years old, had proven that he was rightly considered one of the greatest English football talents of recent years: 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 appearances inevitably aroused the interest of other larger clubs.
The fact that Sancho chose United was seen as a transfer coup – and a declaration of war on the competition in England and Europe. But there is now no sign of a departure in the red part of Manchester. And Sancho has become another symbol of United’s slow decline.
