Italian Judokas Assunta Scutto and Odette Giuffrida Win Gold Medals at Abu Dhabi Grand Slam

Assumption Scutto and Odette Giuffrida they won two gold medals on the first day of Grand Slam ad Abu Dhabi. Once again, after Baku last month, Assunta and Odette climbed onto the podium of the same Slam and if in Azerbaijan it was gold for Scutto and bronze for Giuffrida, this time they both achieved the maximum result.

Nine Italians competed on this opening day and Assunta in the 48 kg and Odette in the 52 kg immediately established themselves in a disruptive way by climbing to the top step of the podium, but Francesca’s race was also excellent Milani despite finishing with a fifth place in the 48kg.

But three Italians present in a Slam final on the same day could be another small record to note and add to that of Odette Giuffrida, who today further extended her already infinite series of medals on the World Judo Tour.

“I’m very happy! -commented Assunta Scutto– I had fun today, I came here without expectations with the only thought of having fun! Today I felt very good, I felt in great shape! Now I’m aiming for the European Championships next week! Thanks as always to my Fiamme Gialle sports group! Thanks to my coach Antonio Ciano… the results speak, I know we are doing a great job together! Thanks to all the national team that is close to me and all the people who followed me. A hug to Andrea Palloni, my trainer present here, all my family and as always my boyfriend Kevyn, who is always essential for me ❤️”.

“We came to take important points and that was it. -she commented she was rightly satisfied Francesco Bruyerewomen’s head coach – Susy and Ody started as number one seeds, but, as I said yesterday, it’s one thing to start from a good position and another to get to the bottom.

If in Baku Susy managed to win when she was not in good condition, today she showed us what she can do when she is: a spectacular race made up of precise and fast tactical actions with perfect timing and a varied and optimal application of technique. Odette extends her record of consecutive Slam medals to 16. With one hand still in mid-service, she used her head impeccably, mixing technique and tactics perfectly.

I am very happy because even in these conditions she solved the semi-final and final very well with two of the most difficult and difficult athletes for her due to their technical characteristics. A round of applause also for Francy Milani who deserved a medal after having played an excellent race characterized by very long and complicated matches which certainly influenced the final, a very respectable fifth place remains.

I conclude by saying that even though it may seem strange, these girls still amaze me. I am amazed by their continuity, their fighting attitude, the perseverance and professionalism with which they proceed every day towards their objectives and for this I can only congratulate them all”.
