El International Olympic Committee (IOC) will validate the inclusion in the J programLos Angeles 2028 Olympic Games to the five sports proposed by the organizing committee: baseball/softball, cricket, lacrosse, flag football y squash, after the organization gave its approval to the initiative, announced Thomas Bach, president of the IOC.
With the inclusion of five more sports, the number of athletes will exceed the 10,500 athletes projected for this event. Of the other three sports pending a decision by 2028: weightlifting, modern pentathlon and boxing, the first two will be included and the case of the third sporting discipline will continue to be studied.
Bach confirmed that for the 2028 edition there were 16 proposals for new disciplines (tests of sports already admitted) and the only new one is the sprint beach rowing test.
The IOC president recalled that the inclusion of the five sports “are in harmony” with the culture and sporting tradition of the country organizing the Games.
In the cases of the disciplines under analysis, Bach highlighted each case: in the modern pentathlon was changed equestrian jumping test by a obstacle test. In the weightlifting, The IOC reported that the International Federation was right to delegate anti-doping testing to the WADA and that THAT will determine the sanctions in each incident.
