IOC Approves Five New Sports for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics

Baseball/softball, cricket, lacrosse, flag football and squash are on the Olympic program, as announced by the International Olympic Council

The organizers of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games presented a proposal on Monday, September 9, to include five new sports in the Olympic program of the first summer event in the United States in 32 years.

This week the IOC voted on the proposal to include baseball/softball, cricket, lacrosse, flag football and squash at the meeting held in Mumbai, India.

Well, after evaluating the proposal of the organizers of Los Angeles 2028, the IOC, through its president Thomas Bach, announced that they have decided to accept the proposal and include all sports for the summer fair.

In addition, the IOC confirmed that weightlifting and modern pentathlon are already confirmed for the Olympic Games while boxing will continue to be evaluated, but everything looks set to remain on the program.

After the acceptance of new sports, now Los Angeles 2028 will have the following sports: athletics, rowing, badminton, basketball, canoeing, cycling, horse riding, fencing, soccer.

Also golf, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, wrestling, swimming, rugby, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, shooting, archery. Likewise triathlon, sailing, volleyball, surfing, skateboarding, climbing, modern pentathlon, weightlifting.
