Interim Women’s Coach Horst Hrubesch Excited for DFB Women’s International Clash in Iceland

“I didn’t think I’d be this itchy again.”

Interim women’s coach Horst Hrubesch (72) is enthusiastic about his “girls” again.

The DFB women will compete in Iceland on Tuesday evening (8 p.m., streamed on sportstudio.de). After the 5-1 win against Wales, the next Nations League game is coming up – and the associated Olympic qualification.

Exciting: After returning to Germany on Wednesday, Hrubesch will not return to his actual job as youth manager at Hamburger SV, where he is under contract until 2025. In consultation with HSV, he can decide for himself how often he will be in Hamburg during his DFB interlude.

Hrubesch reveals: “I’ll be back in Hoffenheim on Saturday.” The women’s Bundesliga game against Freiburg is scheduled there. A day later he is in Munich for the big game between Bayern and Wolfsburg. He also wants to be in Eintracht’s World Cup arena for Frankfurt’s Champions League clash against Barcelona (November 22nd).

Hrubesch: “I will continue to look at the women so that we can get a few more impressions – that will help us towards Denmark.”

The all-important game in the fight for Olympic qualification next year in Paris will be against the leaders of Group 3 on December 1st in Rostock. Hrubesch: “We’ll have to bite.”

Hrubesch gets serious! In Iceland the coach focuses exclusively on sport. When asked whether the team was able to see and enjoy something from Iceland, Hrubesch reacted frostily: “We don’t need to do the circus act here.”

Warning, funny! Hard laugh from the DFB girls

In addition to captain Alexandra Popp (thigh stiffness), defense chief Marina Hegering (Achilles tendon problems) and striker Nicole Anyomi (knee problems) are also out.

The experienced Sara Doorsoun (31) from Eintracht Frankfurt plays for Hegering.

Good omen: On September 1, 2018, Hrubesch – also interim coach at the time – went to Iceland. In the end, thanks to two Huth goals, there was a 2-0 win, which was the decisive success in qualifying for the 2019 World Cup. Hrubesch: “We can do Iceland!”
