Places are expensive for coaches but that doesn’t stop some from resigning very soon after their arrival, like Marcelino with loon. To replace him, Gennaro Gattuso therefore signed for the Marseille club but he could very well have landed at rival Lyon.

And yes because if there was a crisis loonit wasn’t much better for l’OL. Following the departure of Laurent Blanc, John Textor had validated the profile of Gennaro Gattuso to save his new club. But a wave of insults against the Italian on X, formerly Twitter, made the Lyon owner change his mind.

“When Laurent Blanc arrived at the beginning of September, Gattuso was the big favorite. Textor wants it, internally the teeth are grinding. But what really tipped the scales was the wave of negative comments on Twitter,” said a source close to l’OL in Provence. With hindsight, Gennaro Gattuso must be very happy to have avoided setting foot in the quagmire of Lyon.
