“In no case is it an assassination”: Mike Maignan responds to criticism after his red card against Genoa

Much more was remembered about the prowess of Olivier Giroud, goalkeeper for one night, in the AC Milan goal. But to get there, the top scorer in the history of the France team had to replace in the cages a Mike Maignan, imperial this Saturday evening… until the 98th minute.

The last Milanese rampart then completely missed his exit, outside his area, in front of Genoa striker Caleb Ekuban, while his team was leading in the score thanks to a goal from its summer recruit Pulisic (1- 0). Maignan hit the Ghanaian in the upper body, with his forearm. Quite spectacular images in slow motion.

“What happened was not intentional”

An action that has no more to the president of Genoa Alberto Zangrillo. “We witnessed an intervention that, as a doctor, I describe as murderous, but that’s fine. We will see the sanction they will give to Maignan, but they are in the process of having two different championships,” he criticized after the meeting.

The Milan goalkeeper responded to these tackles this Sunday on Instagram. “Words have meaning. What happened (Saturday) was not intentional, it may be deplorable, but in no case is it an assassination.” he published in story. Directly expelled for this dangerous gesture, Mike Maignan could have several suspension matches. “I wish you the best for the future and I hope you never have to experience what you accused me of,” he added.

This will not prevent the French goalkeeper from being available for the next meeting of the Blues next week. The France team will face the Netherlands then Scotland on October 13 and 17.
