Three German darts players have reached the round of 16 of the German Darts Championship. Gabriel Clemens defeated top seed Dave Chisnall. Ricardo Pietreczko presented himself on the verge of perfection. Previously, Nico Kurz had created a small sensation.

Three German games, three outstanding performances. With Ricardo Pietreczko and Gabriel Clemens, two more Germans qualified for the round of 16 of the German Darts Championship in Hildesheim on Saturday evening. In the afternoon, amateur Nico Kurz had already sensationally moved into the round of 16 with a spectacular 6:5 over Jonny Clayton. The Hessian checked two high finishes and converted his match dart on the bullseye.

Clemens and Pietreczko solved their tasks hardly less spectacularly. The German number one threw Dave Chisnall, the number one seeded player on the European Tour, out of the tournament. Clemens achieved five 180s at a clear 6:2 and ended up with an average of 101. The “German Giant” hit 46 percent of his attempts at the checkout, while the Englishman only hit every fourth arrow on the target. “Today the double rate was really good. Yesterday I was already good at scoring,” said Clemens succinctly: “I’m just super happy. Hildesheim is something like our living room.”

Pietreczko plays 107 average

And shortly afterwards two roommates met: Pietreczko and Martin Schindler, for whom the German duel was also about defending 16th place in the Pro Tour rankings. On the European Tour, the top 16 are seeded for the second round.

However, nothing could be done against Pietreczko that evening. After the opening score of 1:1, the Nuremberg native won four legs in a row, including high finishes of 102 and 103. In the only moment of weakness, he missed his first two match darts and allowed his compatriot to win another leg, but then stormed with five perfect darts in the eighth round and closed with a 12-darter for a 6:2 victory. An average of 107.08 points meant his strongest performance on a stage ever and the third-best score by a German in the history of the European Tour. 43 percent on the doubles rounded off the formidable overall impression.

Pietreczko meets his compatriot George Killington, who played the match of his life against Dirk van Duijvenbode and defeated the heavy favorite from the Netherlands 6-0.
