Houston Rockets Trade Kevin Porter Jr After Arrest: Oklahoma City Thunder Takes The Risk

After a few weeks the Houston Rockets they found a buyer for Kevin Porter Jr, a player who averaged 19.2 points in 59 games last season but who recently suddenly became redundant. The reason is the trial which will begin shortly, with Porter Jr arrested for physical violence against his (now ex) girlfriend. The facts date back to last month, when the player was in New York.

Immediately after the incident, Houston began looking for a difficult trade, offering to repay the potential buyer with draft picks. The ones who came forward, enticed by this last point, were the Oklahoma City Thunder. A little while ago Adrian Wojnarowski reported the details of the exchange, with the Rockets trading both Porter Jr and two future second-round picks to OKC: that of Minnesota in 2027 and that of Milwaukee in 2028. Houston instead gets Victor Oladipo, out of contract next summer, and Jeremiah Earl-Robinson.

Kevin Porter Jr will not set foot in the Thunder anyway: the franchise has already decided to cut him with immediate effect. The move will force Oklahoma City to pay the player, which it still has one-year guaranteed contract for $16.5 million in salary. It is impossible to say whether Porter Jr, due to these behaviors, will set foot in the NBA again. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that an athlete guilty of similar crimes has been reinstated: it just happened with Miles Bridges, who among other things recently violated restrictive orders and was arrested again.
