Hockey Scuffle: Estonian Player Receives Peculiar Rejection in Latvian Championship Match

The 13-year-old and 189-centimeter-tall “wolf” from Estonia, Leonard Reynols, at the very end of the match, received a very peculiar rejection – 5+20+20+20+20 minutes, while Maksims Versheckis, a Ukrainian player from Riga, received two major penalties (5+20 and 5 +20 minutes).

The peculiar conflict situation developed when there were 34 seconds left before the end of the match and the young hockey players of the capital were in the lead with 7-3. A small scuffle broke out near the “wolves” goal, during which the Ukrainian hockey player Versheckis behaved very incorrectly. He skated into Raynol’s leg from behind, endangering the Estonian’s health. The mature hockey player of the Ikšķile team thoroughly dressed and went to discipline the Ukrainian hockey player, who is a year older but much shorter (169 centimeters).

When the two hotheads had fallen on the ice, the two referees of the match, Jānis Straupe and Jānis Eglītis, wanted to end the fight, however, the young Estonian saw his opponents in the referees and threw his fists at them. In the end, joint efforts managed to control the young hockey player, however, his future as a sport, at least in the Latvian championship, could be highly questionable, as the “Baltic Wolves” have announced that they are ending cooperation with this Estonian hockey player.

Presumably, Versheckis could also get a longer suspension.

It is interesting that the Ikšķile team is coached by such well-known Latvian hockey players as Edgars Masalskis, Aleksejs Širokovs, Maksims Širokovs and Aigars Bērziņš, while the Riga team is coached by Andrejs Ignatovičs, Igor Smirnovs and Dmitrijs Kuzmins.
