Het Parool knows more about Ajax’s search for replacement Steijn

According to Het Parool, Maurice Steijn has almost failed at Ajax. If the 49-year-old trainer continues to lose the coming matches, his fate seems to be sealed. Alex Kroes, who will not officially take over as general manager until March 15, can already help his future employer in the search for a new head coach, according to the Amsterdam newspaper.

Kroes’ non-competition clause at AZ prohibits him from contacting Ajax employees, but that does not stop him from already exerting influence in the Johan Cruiff ArenA. For example, Kroes sparred with Louis van Gaal, who returned to Ajax last week as an advisor to the Supervisory Board. Kroes also ‘explicitly’ contributed to the appointments of John van ‘t Schip and Marijn Beuker.

Kroes also has his hands free to look for an eventual replacement for Steijn because it will be a trainer who is not currently under contract with Ajax, it sounds. If Steijn were to be appointed at short notice, Van ‘t Schip could temporarily do the honors in Amsterdam.

The pressure on Steijn’s position at Ajax is increasing. The Amsterdam team is only sixteenth in the Eredivisie and won their last match on August 24. That was in the away match against Ludogorets in the Europa League play-offs. After the international break, Ajax is scheduled to play matches against FC Utrecht (October 22), Brighton & Hove Albion (October 26) and PSV (October 29).
