Helene Schrattenholzer Achieves “National Slam” with State Championship Win

Helene Schrattenholzer from the Judo Union Klosterneuburg made what had already been a sensational year perfect.

At the weekend she was crowned state champion in her class and thus achieved the “National Slam”, i.e. she won the championship titles in the U18, U21, U23 and now also in the general class.

But the most recent title in particular was a decent piece of work. In the fight for the gold medal she had to deal with Maria Höllwart, who will be competing for the Judo Association at the European Championships in Montpellier in November.

The final was held as a best-of-three and was an incredibly exciting affair. In the first two fights, both Schrattenholzer and Höllwart, state champion for the last two years, were able to record a victory and the decision was only made in the third and final fight.

After an incredible 26:47 minutes of total fight time (all three fights combined), the sensation was perfect and Helene secured victory with a hold. “Winning the state championship after U18, U21 and U23 is an incredible feeling. “I didn’t expect that at all before the competition,” said the young Klosterneuburg native, happy about her success.
