And they didn’t do it precisely to join the party, but to allegedly pressure Hermoso and his entourage to make some move that would reduce the media, social and political pressure that was already surrounding Rubiales.
Specifically, it was Albert Luque, sports director of the RFEF, and Rubén Rivera, marketing director who was dismissed a few days ago, who traveled to Ibiza with this intention. And today the newspaper The world has revealed some of the messages that Luque, former player of Deportivo de la Coruña and Mallorca, sent to a friend of Hermoso and that would expose the coercion that the footballer denounced in court, which her teammates Alexia Putellas, Irene Paredes and Misa Rodríguez confirmed in their statements as witnesses.
“I just wish him [a Hermoso] that life gives back everything it is making a person pay for [Rubiales] unfairly,” says one of Albert Luque’s WhatsApp messages sent to a friend of Hermoso who he asked for help after the footballer refused to attend to him during the trip to Ibiza. “He deserves nothing for his lack of humanity that he has,” he adds.
“It seems so unfair, so unfair, what is being done to Luis [Rubiales]. It seems to me that Jenni’s attitude is so humanly base… So little empathy and humanity,” Albert Luque continues to write to Hermoso’s friend. What the sports director of the Spanish men’s national team wanted was “a simple gesture ” on the part of the footballer to “take away” from Rubiales “the biggest shit of his life”. In addition, he considered that Hermoso had climbed “on the death wagon” and wondered: “Not receiving the director sportsman of the RFEF and friend two minutes?”
On the other hand, Luque felt deceived because Hermoso’s friend had previously told him that the player would not comment on the matter and published a statement on August 23, three days after the events, through the union Futpro and its representative agency, TMJ. In the letter, Hermoso called for “a firm condemnation of conduct that attacks the dignity of women” and that “exemplary measures” be adopted.
Albert Luque will testify as investigated
Subsequently, Hermoso denounced Rubiales, and National Court judge Francisco de Jorge initially subpoenaed Albert Luque to testify as a witness in the case. But after they declared Hermoso’s brother and a friend of the player as witnesses and accused Luque of coercion, the judge decided to change his status from witness to under investigation. The sports director of the Spanish men’s team will testify about these facts on October 10. Rubén Rivera is in the same situation.
One of the few people who has shown public support for Albert Luque since he is being investigated for possible coercion of Jennifer Hermoso is Enric Masip, assistant to Joan Laporta’s presidential cabinet at Barça. “You are one of the best people I’ve met in my life, a man of integrity, discreet, good guy and authentic. Always on your team, my friend. You’re great,” wrote Masip on Instagram, accompanied by a photograph of him with Albert Luque. After the 2022 edition of the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, asked by EFE about the fact that very few women had been seen in the stadium, the former soccer player replied that “to the man he always liked football more than the woman.”
