Hannover 96 Prepares for Bundesliga Test with Friendly Match Against VfL Bochum

Finally Bundesliga again for Hannover 96 – but for now only for testing!

Lower Saxony is currently in fifth place in the lower house of football. The Reds’ kickers will still be able to breathe in a bit of first league air from the pot on Thursday.

At 1:30 p.m., head coach Stefan Leitl’s (46) team will test against VfL Bochum. They are already in the fight against relegation and currently find themselves in relegation place in the rankings. Maybe we’ll meet at the end of the season for a duel for Bundesliga membership…

The emergency can be rehearsed in advance. In the extra-long version. The friendly game is supposed to be played four times for half an hour.

“All players will be used,” reveals Leitl in advance. “We will divide the playing times in such a way that players who have recently been used less will get significantly more playing time against Bochum.”

This means: Noble reservists like newcomer Christopher Scott (21/most recently Royal Antwerp) or defensive veteran Julian Börner (32) should play around 90 minutes.

Those with long-term injuries should also be introduced to the rhythm of competition again. “With Max Christiansen and Max Besuschkow we will still decide how long they will be on the pitch,” says Leitl.

And what about storm jewel Nicolo Tresoldi (19), who was recently down with the flu and has visibly deteriorated physically? Leitl: “Nicolo definitely won’t play for longer than 30 minutes, if at all.”

The trio should be carefully introduced back into the team and, ideally, be part of the squad for the Magdeburg game after the international break. “We hope that all three are an option for Magdeburg,” explains Leitl. “Although we have to be careful with Nicolo. He’s not as advanced as the other two yet.”

In order to get the U21 national player properly fit again, those responsible for 96 have come up with a special support program.

“We’re trying to get him fit again with adapted strength training or one or two extra sessions,” reveals Leitl. “When it comes to running, you have to provide stimulation, but you shouldn’t put too much strain on it. It’s important that the boys give honest feedback so that they don’t overtrain.”

The ever-players like Ron-Robert Zieler (34) and Marcel Halstenberg (32) are also traveling to Bochum. Sparing these professionals the away test wasn’t really an option for Leitl.

“Taking a break wasn’t a consideration,” confirms the football teacher. “We are in work mode and want to take advantage of the opportunity to train with the entire squad and have a great game in Bochum against a first division team where everyone can show themselves.”
