Geraint Thomas extends for two more seasons at Ineos Grenadiers

Geraint Thomas has just extended for two additional seasons with Ineos Grenadiers, the team where he has played since 2010. Winner of the Tour de France in 2018, second in 2019 and third again last year, the Welshman is still, at 37, among the very best grand tour riders in the world, as evidenced by his second place in the general classification at the last Giro, in May.

“Even if you should never say never, for me this is my last contract,” the rider said in a press release. I know I have two big years left. And I would never have continued in another team. »

“I just want to have a positive impact on the group”

“The team’s goal is to get back on the podium at the Tour and Geraint will play a vital role in achieving this goal,” says Rod Ellingworth, the sporting manager of Ineos, who could field two other leaders – Carlos Rodriguez and Tom Pidcock – at the start of the next Grande Boucle.

Thomas, for his part, specifies that he wants to remain competitive “in any way, whether by returning to the classics, by aiming for the general of a grand tour or by helping one of our young people: I just want have a positive impact on the group. »
