Gennaro Gattuso Expresses Frustration Over Fourth Referee’s Decision in Marseille’s Defeat to Nice

Gennaro Gattuso appeared rather upset after the defeat of Olympique de Marseille on the Nice pitch (0-1) this Saturday, as part of the 9th day of Ligue 1. Because just before the goal scored with a header by Evann Guessand on a free kick for the Aiglons, the Italian technician wanted to bring in Bamo Meté and Geoffrey Kondogbia in order to bring size into the area following the red card received by Leonardo Balerdi. But “the fourth referee said no”, as the Marseille coach recounted.

“Why didn’t they let me make the change? You have to ask the fourth referee (smile). I don’t know why, and I got angry at the time. I wanted to bring in my two players who are tall , but the fourth referee said no. I didn’t really understand. I think it was a problem with the color on the socks,” explained the former Milan coach on Canal+.

“We had a good match, yes, but to win matches you have to score goals. It was a good performance, yes, but we will have to work more and resolve certain details. I am not targeting anyone tonight, nor my attackers nor Leonardo. I told my players that this defeat would help us to progress”, concluded Gattuso.
