Future Uncertain for Bayern Munich’s Neuer and Choupo-Moting as Contracts Expire

Things are going well for the FC Bayern captain during this international break. These should be the last steps on the long road back for Manuel Neuer. In the past few days, the keeper completed the usual goalkeeper training together with Sven Ulreich and Daniel Peretz, who are also not on international trips, and also the units with the amateurs in order to maintain the intensity and get closer to everyday competition. When exactly Neuer will make his comeback will be decided at short notice. According to his current situation, he is expected to receive the green light from the doctors and the coaching team for the coming weekend. But the decision is up to the 37-year-old himself – whether he wants to return to Mainz, Istanbul or against Darmstadt.

The only important thing, say those responsible, is that he will be in goal again. And then Neuer and the bosses will, in close communication, observe how it feels for him. Discussions regarding his future and his contract, which expires after this season, are therefore in no hurry. Logically, they are firmly planned, basically before the turn of the year. Neuer has the confidence to spend more years at the highest level; the club’s appreciation for the five-time world goalkeeper is enormous.

For Choupo-Moting and Sarr, the signs point to farewell

The question about the future is also being asked by Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (34), who canceled the international break at short notice due to minor muscle problems and is currently training individually. Not so much with Bouna Sarr (31). The Senegalese is set to leave the club after spending four years on his contract, mostly on the bench. At Choupo-Moting there are also signs of a farewell.

The German-Cameroonian is valued in the team, but it is the good mood factor that predominates, not the sportiness, even though he helped the Munich team out of trouble with his goals last season. Nevertheless, it was very hasty on the part of the old management and can be seen as a great gesture to extend his contract in the spring with double salary. In winter there would still be the opportunity to receive – at least – a small transfer fee for Choupo-Moting if the FCB needs money for new players. Especially since Bayern have an up-and-coming offensive all-rounder in 18-year-old Mathys Tel, who is absolutely convincing as a backup.
