Isaac Cuenca was one of the footballers who came from grassroots football and had a certain role in Guardiola and Tito Vilanova’s Barça. The one from Reus, a skilled and talented winger, has decided to put an end to his career and, at 32 years old, he hangs up his boots. She assured this during a conversation with ‘RAC1’.
“I have undergone six knee operations, all of them the same. I tried to make an optimal recovery to return to the playing field, but the sixth operation was very difficult, I suffered a lot and I said enough,” says the footballer, who, despite everything, He claims to be “satisfied with my career. I know what I’ve been through and what I’ve worked for. “Everyone had expectations of me to play for Guardiola’s Barça, but the first operation came and it went wrong,” he recalls.
Despite this, he has very good memories of his Blaugrana stage: “The best moment of my career was the debut or the first goal, against Mallorca. Especially because of the noise generated by the Camp Nou. It really impresses a lot.” At Barça he learned from the best: “Pep Guardiola and Tito Vilanova helped me a lot. They made me learn movements that I have used throughout my career. I am very happy to have shared a dressing room with Pep. Maybe without him I would not have been able to make my debut at Barça”, he is clear.
Isaac Cuenca’s future, according to what he says, lies on the bench: “I’m getting my coaching card with Bojan. If you listen to me, I’ll send you a hug from here. Also with Belletti, Víctor Vázquez and Beñat,” he says. And he is clear that “I would like to remain linked to football,” he confesses.
Barça is doing well
Regarding current Barça, he comments that “I see it very well. Here we are used to excellence. Now what we have to do is try to get the new and younger players to gain confidence.” One of them is Lamine Yamal: “He is a very good kid. The only thing I can tell him is to listen to the coaches and the people around him. I am convinced that he will be key at Barça.”
The one from Rocafonda, like Cuenca, plays on the wing, a position he claims: “Wingers have to take risks, whether they fail or not. The figure of the winger has lost prominence and now they focus on controlling and passing. “Football needs a little more magic.”
