Football: stadium unusable, Triestina fans protest at the Municipality – Football

“We deserve respect.” With this banner unfurled on the ground in Piazza Unità d’Italia, in front of the Municipality building where a meeting of the Municipal Council was taking place, at least 350 Triestina football fans protested against the poor conditions of the football pitch of the Nereo Rocco city stadium which they force the team to play in Fontanafredda (Pordenone), over 100 kilometers away. Triestina plays in Serie C group A.

Ultras, simple supporters and representatives of the various clubs in Triestina met on the occasion of the city council to protest against the mayor Roberto Dipiazza and the (centre-right) council who, according to the demonstrators, did not deal with the matter with the due attention. Offensive slogans were directed at the mayor and the city councilor and vice-president of the FVG Council Francesco Russo (Pd) who had taken to the streets in an attempt to calm things down. The fans also contest the council’s decision to hold concerts next June, during the Serie C play-off period, in the stadium.

A delegation of fans, as reported by the local press, was received by the municipal councilor for Sport and Sports Facilities Elisa Lodi, who announced “extraordinary interventions to make the pitch as presentable as possible for the next match”. The fans often find it difficult for the four thousand season ticket holders to move to Fontanafredda to follow their team. The square was patrolled for a long time by the police, even in riot gear.
