Football: Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez files complaint after corruption accusations

On Tuesday morning, on the Catalan radio show Rac1, the former Spanish police commissioner, José Manuel Villarejo, pointed the finger at the president of Real Madrid, accusing him of having corrupted the referees. In the process, the Spanish club announced via a press release “the immediate filing of legal action” after “false accusations”, made by the ex-commissioner.

While a few days ago the Spanish courts ordered a search of the premises of the Spanish arbitration department as part of the investigation into the possible corruption of referees by FC Barcelona. The Catalan club is accused of having corrupted a former vice-president of referees, José Maria Enriquez Negreira, between 2001 and 2018. The former police commissioner accused Real Madrid, and its president, of having made even. Live, he declared that “all presidents have taken such measures”, before continuing “in a certain way, at Real Madrid, before the Negreira case, the same thing had already been detected”.

But José Manuel Villarejo has no illusions about the fate of this affair: “it is impossible to pursue something that goes against Florentino Pérez in this country. Anyone who dares is suicidal because he is untouchable.”
