Jerome Boateng will not receive a contract with FC Bayern

The spectacular return is off the table. FC Bayern has decided against signing Jerome Boateng. The record champions announced this on Friday. The personnel situation in the central defense has “relaxed,” it said in the statement.

The fuss surrounding Jérôme Boateng’s training guest appearance at FC Bayern continues to have an impact. Dietmar Hamann thinks the Munich team underestimated the anger of the fans. The TV expert accuses the record champions of lacking foresight.

Former Bayern professional Dietmar Hamann sees fan criticism in the Jérôme Boateng case as the main reason for FC Bayern’s decision against re-signing the ex-national player. “The only reason why he doesn’t get a contract is the fans,” said Hamann on Saturday on the TV channel “Sky”.

The 50-year-old believes that Bayern’s sporting arguments, which justified their decision not to use Boateng with the improved personnel situation in defense, are fake. “I can’t do anything with that and Bayern are trying to play the public for a bit,” said Hamann.

Boateng is facing a new criminal trial in Bavaria because he is accused of attacking his then partner and mother of his children while on vacation in the summer of 2018. That’s why the 35-year-old was sentenced in the second instance last year to a fine of 1.2 million euros for bodily harm and insult – but the Bavarian Higher Regional Court recently overturned this judgment and returned the case to the Munich I Regional Court. The case is therefore re-rolled. The former national soccer player complained about an unfair trial and a prior conviction.

Boateng’s signing fails because of Bayern fans

The fact that the 2014 world champion was recently allowed to train with his former club for several days and that Bayern were considering a short-term contract for him caused heated debates. “We should have known beforehand that the sponsors and fans might not be happy with it,” said Hamann and spoke of a “quake in the fan scene.” FC Bayern underestimated the situation surrounding Boateng.

The Munich team offered Boateng to continue to stay fit with the record champions. He was said to be in good physical condition. Most recently, Boateng, who did not receive a new contract at Olympique Lyon after two years, was without a club. That’s why he could have been signed outside the transfer window.
