Luck and indulgence: The German champions are filming the Champions League game in Copenhagen – also because of a change that didn’t materialize at first. The victory confirms two findings.

If the detail about the referee and his scoreboard that Thomas Müller later said into the microphone was correct, then everything could have turned out differently that Tuesday evening in Copenhagen. And in this case one could even believe Müller, who almost always speaks as a lawyer for FC Bayern Munich, with a clear conscience: because he was observing the referee on his own behalf – because he finally wanted to be substituted.

In the 66th minute – FC Copenhagen was leading 1-0 – three players with black jerseys suddenly lined up on the sidelines in the Parken Stadium: striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. The striker Mathys Tel. And the striker Thomas Müller. They should prevent their club from losing a preliminary round game in the Champions League for the first time since September 2017. As they lined up on the sideline, the ball rolled out of bounds. But the referee with the scoreboard wasn’t there yet. And by the time he got there, Konrad Laimer had long since thrown the ball in again.
