Extended Winter Season in Tuscan Farmhouses: Rural Tourism Thrives Amidst Good Weather

Arezzo, 11 October 2023 – The heat and good weather this early autumn are extending the winter seasonover 5,600 Tuscan farmhouses which alone ensure the regional tourist movement almost 90 thousand beds and over 1 million arrivals.

In the countryside it still seems like summer with tourists, mostly Italian, who take advantage of the sunny weekends and pleasant temperatures to continue to breathe the holiday air, explore villages and rural locations and have one of the thousand experiences that agritourism facilities offer: from tasting from new oil to grape harvesting, from cooking workshops to trekking, from archery to horse riding and bird watching.

To confirm it is the new president of Terranostra Toscana, Marco Masala on the occasion of the regional assembly which was held at Casa Coldiretti in Porta a Prato, Florence, in the presence of the regional director, Angelo Corsetti and the regional secretary of the association, Lara Peverini.

Agritourism entrepreneur from Sansepolcro and peasant chef from Campagna Amica, Masala took stock of the summer season: “It started slowly due to the rains in May and part of June which also brought with them a drop in temperatures.

The summer overall, in terms of attendance, was more than positive. Many foreigners. We are satisfied. – explains the new president of the agritourism entrepreneurs – The wonderful days that are characterizing this October are good for rural tourism which can recover from the lackluster start thanks in particular to our compatriots who return to our facilities which they discovered during the period of restrictions on travel imposed by the pandemic”.

The new president of Terranostra succeeds the Grosseto native, Luca Serafini. “I thank Luca for leading our association in a very difficult moment like the pandemic. – explains Masala – My first commitment will be to start a listening process in the area to learn about the associated structures and share the development and promotion strategies of our sector.

We must work and learn to better communicate our peculiarities starting from our environmental functions and our extraordinary multifunctionality of which our companies are undisputed champions.

Those who choose a farmhouse are not just choosing a place to sleep but a place to live an experience in contact with nature and rusticity without having to give up quality services and comforts”.

The other added value is represented by the typical catering which characterizes the agritourism proposal of almost 2 thousand structures. Food is in fact the most important item in the holiday budget with a third of tourist spending destined for dining which exceeds that for accommodation, driven by the desire for conviviality.
