Exploring the Decline in Membership at the Châteauneuf-sur-Isère Badminton Club

How can we explain the drop in the number of members of the Châteauneuf-sur-Isère Badminton club? “Slots are increasingly difficult to obtain in gyms and that of Châteauneuf is no exception,” explains Jérémy Pouzet. The time slot that was imposed on us in 2017-2018, from 9:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., is not suitable for all badistas given the constraints often linked to their work. Also, little by little, the players, especially the best, joined other clubs with more suitable training schedules. »

A “family niche”

In 2017-2018, the workforce was between 70 and 80 licensees, today it is only 35. “Two years ago, we were in Regional 2,” continues Jérémy Pouzet. Last season, due to a lack of players of a sufficient level, we were unable to enter a team. Which is a bit of a shame because the club was three levels away from playing in the National. »

But the BCCI is not discouraged! The club will enter a team this season in promotional 1 and plans to enter a second in promotional 3. Two tournaments will be organized. In order to attract new members, in the hope of making them want to play badminton, a “family slot” has been set up on Sunday mornings. “Parents play with their children and when the children have had enough, the adults can then play with each other,” says the president.

And to insist: “If we do nothing, the club will die in a year or two. So we tried this solution to keep the club alive. »

To revitalize the club, new recruits would be welcome. Badminton is open to all and can be played in multiple forms: family, team, singles, doubles, mixed doubles. For teenagers, there is no supervision, it is only free play. The most experienced players share their know-how and advice with others who are less experienced.

Training takes place on Mondays from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursdays from 9:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Contact: 06.80.11.95.70.
