Exciting Matches at the YONEX Bendigo International 2023: Australian vs Chinese Taipei Mixed Doubles Semifinal Steals the Show

From the first shuttle being served at the YONEX Bendigo International 2023the Australian vs Chinese Taipei mixed doubles semifinal was nothing short of exciting.  Having home advantage, Choo and Somerville came out with a confidence that meant business.  Winning the first game in extension, the crowd settled in for what was to become the match of the day, a 53-minute blinder.

New Zealander Edward Lau, in what was to be the biggest stage so far in his badminton career, could not stop the experience and speed of Japan’s Keita Makino.  Lau heads to the Sydney International next week and will team up with mixed doubles partner, Shaunna Li.

Number one seed, Tiffany Ho had a hard road to hoe against the strong and calculating Yue Yann Jaslyn Hooi in the women’s singles semifinal. On the other side of the draw, Australian junior Sydney Tjonadi could not back up her impressive win yesterday, going down to a very inform Ying Tse.

The women’s doubles final will be a dynamic encounter featuring the ever entertaining Australian pair of Setyana Mapasa and Angela Yu after they dispatched the twins from Chinese Taipei in the semifinal.   They will however face another young pair from Chinese Taipei after they came through in a comfortable win in their match.

Closing the semifinal session was the exciting men’s doubles pair from Australia.  Playing against the number one seeds, they were in contention for most of the match, only dropping off the pace in the last few rallies.
