European Championship qualification

Austria’s team boss Ralf Rangnick experienced a real test of patience on Sunday evening when entering the European Championship qualifier in Azerbaijan. Due to a problem with the visa, the German and his compatriot and co-coach Peter Perchtold had to stay at the airport in Baku for almost four hours. The duo was only allowed to enter the country at around 1:30 a.m. local time.

According to ÖFB information, the visa problems had been solved at this point. Rangnick and Perchtold have therefore received a replacement visa. The Football Association of Azerbaijan was also involved and intervened to provide support.

After the final training in Vienna, the national team made its way to Baku. The Austrians will play their penultimate game of the European Championship qualification on Monday evening (6 p.m. CEST, live on ORF1, broadcast starts at 5:40 p.m.) in the Tofik Bahramov Stadium in Baku. With a win, the Rangnick team would qualify for the 2024 European Championships in Germany.
