Erik Abramov Wins Silver at Judo Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi

Erik Abramov from UJKC Potsdam won the silver medal in the over 100 kg class on the final day of the Judo Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi. Anna-Maria Wagner from KJC Ravensburg and Alina Böhm from the Heubach Judo Center (both up to 78 kg) won bronze.

Losseni Kone from SC Alstertal-Langenhorn came fifth in the over 100 kg class. Louis Mai from 1. Mannheimer JC took seventh place in the class up to 100 kg.

After a strong day of competition, Erik Abramov had to admit defeat in the final against world champion Inal Tasoev from Russia. The silver medal is the second Grand Slam medal for the Potsdam native after bronze in Tashkent in 2021.

In the preliminary round, Hamza from Brandenburg defeated Irfan Bhatti from Pakistan, Anto Dubreta from Montenegro and Roy Meyer from the Netherlands. In the quarterfinals, the 24-year-old beat Ushangi Kokauri from Azerbaijan, runner-up at the Grand Slam in Tel Aviv this year. In the semifinals there was an early victory against Olympic bronze medalist Tamerlan Bashaev from Russia.

Losseni Kone also reached the semi-finals. The Hamburger had to admit defeat against Inal Tasoev with a Wazaari rating. The 22-year-old German champion had previously defeated Shokhrukhkhon Bakhtiyorov from Uzbekistan, Vito Dragic from Slovenia and Magomedomar Magomedomarov from the United Arab Emirates. In the fight for third place, Kone lost to Jelle Snippe from the Netherlands, who came first at the Grand Slam in Antalya this year, after a foot technique and hold.

In the class up to 78 kg, the two DJB fighters Alina Böhm and Anna-Maria Wagner confidently made it into the quarter-finals. Anna-Maria Wagner beat Iriskhon Kurbanbaeva from Uzbekistan and Alina Böhm beat Karol Gimenes from Brazil. While Wagner missed out on a place in the semi-finals against Fanny Estelle Posvite from France, Böhm was able to prevail against Petrunjela Pavic from Croatia with two Wazaari scores. Finally, both DJB starters reached the fights for bronze. Anna-Maria Wagner beat Pavic in the consolation round and Alina Böhm had to admit defeat against Posvite in the semi-finals.

Alina Böhm won her fight for bronze against Emma Reid from Great Britain after just under a minute with Kesa-gatame. In a balanced fight against Patricia Sampaio from Portugal, who had already won five Grand Slam medals this year, Anna-Maria Wagner achieved the decisive Wazaari score a few seconds before the end of the regular fight time and also secured bronze.

Louis Mai started the competition in the 100 kg class with victories against Kyle Reyes from Canada and Marko Kumric from Croatia. In the quarterfinals, the 22-year-old lost to the Frenchman Marc Francois Ngayap and in the consolation round he had to admit defeat to the four-time Pan American champion Shady Elnahas from Canada by choking technique. Seventh place was his first Grand Slam placement for the man from Mannheim.

George Udsilauri from TSV Erbach initially defeated Onise Saneblidze from Georgia after penalties in the up to 100 kg class, but then lost to Dzhafar Kostoev from the United Arab Emirates in the round of 16, also after penalties.

There were already defeats in the first round for the other DJB judoka: Martin Matijass from JC 71 Düsseldorf had to admit defeat early in the class up to 90 kg by Uchi-mata against Caramnob Sagaipov from Lebanon. Tim Schmidt (up to 90 kg) failed at the start with the Wazaari classification to Akaki Japaridze from Georgia. Samira Bouizgarne from 1. JC Mönchengladbach lost in the over 78 kg class to Elis Startseva from Russia after three Shido punishments. Renée Lucht from HT16 Hamburg (over 78 kg) lost the match against Daria Vladimirova from Russia with Wazaari rating.

In the medal table, Italy took first place with three gold medals, ahead of Canada (2/1/1) and France (1/1/2. Germany came in eighth place with two silver and two bronze medals.
