Editor of France Football Magazine Addresses Rumors Regarding Ballon d’Or Winner, Lionel Messi

The magazine’s editor also addressed the rumors that point to Lionel Messi as the winner of the trophy.

The editor of the prestigious France Football magazine, Vincent Garcia, gave an interview this Sunday to German journalist Philipp Kessler, where he spoke about the long-awaited award of the 2023 Ballon d’Or. One of the themes surrounding this year’s edition is the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo not appear on the list of candidates for the trophy. Vincent Garcia downplayed this fact, and argues that it does not raise any type of controversy.

“Cristiano Ronaldo’s absence was not a topic of debate within the committee. He did not shine in the World Cup, and he plays in a championship with less visibility. Still, he continues to be a great player,” said the editor.

As for the rumors that Lionel Messi is already an anticipated winner, the editor of ‘France Football’ accepts the existence of these same rumors, but believes that they should not always be taken seriously.

“They always have. It’s a media game. We have to understand the desire to announce the winner in advance, but we can’t always believe the rumors”

The journalist believes that many will be possible winners of the award, listing some of the favorites for victory. Vincent Garcia also pointed out some names of young players who could compete for this trophy in the future.

“The future could be today. Mbappé, Haaland or De Bruyne could fight for the Ballon d’Or this year. If we add Vinícius [Júnior]Bellingham and many others, this award will be open for the future”, he highlighted.

The 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony is scheduled for this Monday, October 30th, at the Théâtre du Châtelet’, in Paris.
