Eden Hazard has ended his career as a professional footballer at the age of 32. The former captain of the Belgian national team announced this on Tuesday (October 10, 2023).

“You have to listen to yourself and say stop at the right moment,” wrote Hazard on social networks. “After 16 years and over 700 games, I have decided to end my career. I was able to realize my dream, I was lucky enough to meet many great managers, coaches and teammates in my career – thanks to everyone for this great time. I will miss you all.”

Early end to the Madrid fiasco

This season, the former captain of the Belgian national team, for whom he scored 33 goals in 126 games, was not under contract with any club. In the summer he agreed with Real Madrid to terminate his contract, which originally ran until 2024. In his four years with the Royals, Hazard won a total of eight titles, but he was not happy there in terms of sport after his move from Chelsea in 2019. In a total of 54 games he only scored four goals and he rarely played the full distance.

Hazard took his first steps in professional football at OSC Lille in France in 2008, and in 2012 he moved to the English Premier League. On the island he was named Footballer of the Year in 2015 and became a superstar. Since his move in 2019 for around 115 million euros, things have only gone downhill for him personally.
