Daniil Medvedev Claims 8th Consecutive Victory in Vienna

He made the big 8 in Vienna. Title holder, Russian Daniil Medvedev won his 8th victory in a row on the Austrian indoor court on Friday at the expense of his compatriot Karen Khachanov, 16th in the ATP. And to do this, the world number 3 needed more than two hours (2h15 exactly) and three sets (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) in the quarter-final. During his future half, he has a meeting with the winner of the match between Stefanos Tsitsipas and the Croatian surprise Borna Gojo, 77th and invited by the organization of the tournament.

Ideally launched by an entry break (3-0) which he held without difficulty to win the first act, Medvedev seemed to be heading towards an uneventful victory this Friday, until an absence at 3-2 against him in the second set. On the first and only break point he conceded, he committed a guilty double fault and restarted his rival who reset the counters to zero. But the doubt did not last long because from the start of the third act, he delighted the opposing team for a second time (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) to never let go of the reins this time. More consistent and stingy with direct errors, he logically won despite the sometimes devastating power of his compatriot.
