In 2024, the Belgian Remco Evenepoel could decide to compete in the Giro then the Tour de France. This is what Patrick Lefévère, the boss of Soudal Quick-Step, suggested.

Remco Evenepoel, now 23 years old, has been in the professional cycling peloton for four years now. For the moment, the Belgian, world champion in 2022, has already taken part in a total of four Grand Tours. And more precisely to the 2021 and 2023 editions of the Tour of Italy, which he has never been able to finish. Without forgetting the 2022 editions, which he won, and 2023 editions of the Tour of Spain. But the resident of the Belgian cycling team Soudal Quick-Step has never competed in the Tour de France. It is in 2024 that the cyclist could well finally discover the Grande Boucle, with a big start which will be given on Saturday June 29. To, why not, be an additional rival for the Dane Jonas Vingegaard, double title holder, and for the Slovene Tadej Pogacar. With even a possible Giro-Tour de France sequence.

Lefévère: “We talked about the Tour de France yesterday for the first time, he was thinking about it”

If a definitive answer could come within the next few days, this possibility was logically raised this Wednesday, on the occasion of the officialization of the route of the 111th edition of the prestigious cycling race. It was Patrick Lefévère, the boss of Soudal Quick-Step, who raised this subject concerning his little protégé. The leader spoke to the microphone of Sporza and of VTM : “It’s one of the toughest Tours in recent years. We talked about the Tour de France yesterday for the first time, he was thinking about it. But he still has a score to settle with the Tour of Italy. He is even considering combining the Giro and the Tour. But with what comes after, especially the Olympic Games, I don’t think it’s the best idea. » Still according to Lefévère, Evenepoel spoke, for the very first time, of his program for 2024, only at the start of the week, with his coach Koen Pelgrim and sports director Klaas Lodewyck.
