Costa Rica Shines in Surfing at Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, Securing More Medals

The competitions at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games continue, and Costa Rica secured two more medals this Friday, thanks to surfing.

In the longboard category, the young surfer Lía Díaz has secured a medal for the country by obtaining a score of 9.33 in her confrontation against Liv Stokes from Canada, who obtained 3.94 points.

At 19 years old, Díaz stands out as a promising Costa Rican athlete and has already guaranteed the fourth medal for Costa Rica in these events.

In Shortboard, Leilani McGonagle competed in the semifinal, where she earned a score of 8.33 in her matchup against Tatiana Weston Webb of Brazil, who scored 14.10 points.

Despite this loss, Leilani still has a chance to qualify for the Olympics if she beats Sanoa Dempfle-Olin of Canada in the repechage. If she loses, she has already secured the bronze medal.

The success in these Pan American Games does not stop at surfing. Maricruz Ortiz had already won a bronze medal in racquetball, and in the same discipline, Andrés Acuña and Gabriel García also stood out by obtaining third place on the podium.
