Controversial Refereeing Decisions Cost SLUC Nancy Victory Against Blois

Betclic ELITE – The post-match at the Jeu de Paume was almost as lively as the meeting between Blois and Nancy (99-98, ap), narrowly won by the ADA. Except that the SLUC has two whistles blowing in the last four seconds of the game.

” It’s scandalous “raged the coach Sylvain Lautié, in a press conference after his team’s last-minute defeat against Blois this Saturday evening (99-98, ap). An emotion which also animated the entire SLUC community, which did not fail to point out on social networks the arbitration decisions made at the very end of the game against the ADA.

Because the end of the match at the Jeu de Paume was punctuated by two crucial whistles from the evening refereeing trio (composed of Alexandre Maret, Marion Ortis and Benjamin Boury). Firstly an unsportsmanlike foul against Frank Mason IIIwho wanted to avoid a 3PTS shot, while Nancy led by three points (95-98).

Then a fault of Shevon Thompson on the rebound, for (very light?) contact on Josh Hawleywho converted his two free throws behind (99-98, ap), allowing Blois to win.

Two decisions which therefore weighed on the final outcome of the meeting, and which drove the Nancy technician crazy.

” It’s scandalous ! […] Two whistles like that in four seconds, thank you! joked Sylvain Lautié to the Est Républicain. I don’t know how you can whistle something like that and be calm… It’s more than borderline unsportsmanlike. We can call fouls like that on every shoot. It’s revolting ! »

Especially since Nancy, after a completely botched start (26-6, 10′), was able to get back into the game thanks in particular to a Tyren Johnson gala performance (24 points, 9 rebounds and 5 steals) for his return to the Jeu de Paume. The rear Antony Labanca, with his only basket of the match, allowed SLUC to snatch overtime 34 seconds from the end of regulation time (35-35). An additional period that the SLUC dominated, with its pivotal leader Mason (17 points and 8 assists) – Thompson (22 points and 9 rebounds), before the two players found themselves sanctioned in quick succession by the referees. As his trainer pointed out Mickaël Hay post-match, Blois could therefore be happy to win this Saturday evening.

“We put their heads under water in the first quarter and then we see ourselves looking too good, analyzed the Blesois coach Mickaël Hay at the microphone of La Nouvelle République. I don’t know if there was a mistake in the last action. But for us, it’s still a small miracle. »

A small miracle made possible in particular by these two whistles in the last seconds of the game. Blois now has a positive record (5 wins – 4 losses) and is back on par with its evening opponent (one match less for Nancy). “I can understand Nancy’s frustration, declared the rear of the ADA Timothé Vergiat. It fell on our side, but Nancy surely deserved to win”. This is certainly what all Nancy supporters must be thinking this Sunday…
