The commemorative events will be on Saturday, October 28, with former player Felipe Reyes
The Councilor for Sports, Maite Gandía, presented today, together with the president of the V-74 Basketball Club, Pepe Vilches, the events scheduled to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the club. A day that will feature the presence of the former Spanish national team player, Felipe Reyes.
As the councilor has commented, the club, with the collaboration of the Department of Sports, has created a commission to carry out different activities to celebrate this anniversary during the 12 months of this year. The first of them will be this Saturday, October 28, with a day that will feature the former player of the Spanish basketball team, Felipe Reyes.
Reyes played professional basketball for 23 seasons and won 24 titles. With the national team he played 236 matches, being the fourth player with the most international matches in the history of Spain. He was proclaimed World champion in 2006, is a three-time European champion and two Olympic champions.
“We are very lucky to have Felipe Reyes to celebrate our anniversary,” commented Pepe Vilches. “On Saturday morning he will sign the book of honor and from there we will take a tour of the town, showing him important places such as the castle or the treasure. After that, there will be a private event at the club, where he will give a talk to our players.”
In the afternoon at the sports center, starting at 5:30 p.m., there will be a photocall in which citizens will be able to take photos with Felipe Reyes. At 7:00 p.m. there will be the presentation of the club, which this year has 13 teams and 160 players from children to seniors. Once the presentation is over, at 8:30 p.m., there will be simultaneous senior men’s and women’s basketball games that will face the Elda and Petrer teams.
“We are very proud of our past and our current stage, in which after covid we are re-emerging. We hope that the greatest people of Villena can come and enjoy Saturday with us,” commented Pepe Vilches.
