After a very close Game 1 on Saturday, the Cometz allowed themselves room for error for the second day of these D1/D2 baseball play-offs. Two matches to conclude
Thanks to their victory in match 1, the Cometz approached their second day of competition more calmly. With a squad larger than that of Béziers, Metz hoped to conclude in match 2. The third and final match saw Messins definitively take the lead in this series of play-offs. This time, it was experience that made the difference for Messins, accustomed to the high level, against the D2 champion. “We gradually managed to hit their pitcher who, unusually, played a third game. We gave them five points, and we managed to hold on. Which is a great performance because the atmosphere in Béziers was quite hostile”analyse Pierre Cézard.
Pierre Cézard: “It was very important to stay in D1”
The Metz coach did not hide his satisfaction at our microphone. “The guys are happy, it’s great and it’s deserved given what we produced over these two days. It was very important to stay in D1, if only to have a certain financial balance. Next year, the rules will change and more French will have to play. We will try not to go to the play-offs, but I am convinced today of our level. This will allow us to continue to structure ourselves.”
