‘Check in on the people around you’: Norwich mental health video goes viral

This Tuesday, as part of World Health Day, sport mobilized widely to put this issue at the center of concerns. The English club Norwich also took the opportunity to produce a poignant video on this subject. It shows two supporters of the club, sitting next to each other in the stadium during their favorite team’s home matches. While one seems preoccupied and sad, the other expresses joy and worries about his neighbor’s daily life.

As the video progresses, it is always the supporter on the right who shows the most enthusiasm. He even gave his friend a club scarf after a Norwich victory. But ultimately it is he who will no longer come to the stadium, victim of psychological problems that are difficult to spot. A subtle but very touching video from the Norwich club, which embellished it with a very clear message: “Sometimes it’s obvious that someone is struggling to cope, but sometimes the signs are more difficult to detect. Get news from those around you.”

Since Tuesday, the video has gone viral. More than 40 million people have already watched it. UEFA notably commented: “Incredibly powerful, well done Norwich”. The club also took the opportunity to call the number of the “Samaritans” association, which is available 24 hours a day if necessary in England.

In France, a documentary available on the Prime Video platform, in which five French champions talk about their depression, was also broadcast this Tuesday. Called “Strong, as strong as fragile”, this documentary in three episodes traces the difficulties and the rebirth of Camille Lacourt, Jérémy Florès, Perrine Laffont, Valentin Porte and Ysaora Thibus. A testimony as poignant as it is important in an environment where mental health is still far too taboo.
