Alcaraz has just beaten Barrère in their first match of the tournament, in the second round, 6-2 and 7-5. Evans, for his part, left Kukushkin on the road, with a 6-2 and 3-0, after the Kazakh retired in the second set.
Carlos seeks to maintain his record of victories over Evans, having defeated the Briton on the three previous occasions in which they have met. Two of those previous victories were already on hard surfaces (Vienna 2021 and US Open 2023), so it is familiar territory for both.
