Campazzo and Tavares, ninth symphony of Real Madrid

Barça, Baskonia and Valencia win as pursuers of the leader

MADRID, 15 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

This Sunday, Real Madrid extended its perfect start to the campaign with nine victories in nine games after beating UCAM Murcia (106-92) on the fifth day of the Endesa League, rising to a lead that they pursue with only one victory: Barça, Baskonia and Valencia Basket, along with a Surne Bilbao Basket that won on Saturday.

Chus Mateo’s team closed a week of offensive exhibition with its third game passing 100 points. Walter Tavares and Facundo Campazzo were the standouts this time in a Madrid that beat the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday and Anadolu Efes on Thursday in its second Euroleague game.

The center signed a PIR of 24 and the point guard, 23, in a connection that once again reminds us of old times, when five years ago they dominated in the Old Continent. The duel left a disagreement on the way to the locker room tunnel between Sergio Llull and the rival coach Sito Alonso, when the white player approached the coach with some slaps and some remark that did not sit well with the man from Madrid.

Madrid returned from the break with 39 points in the third quarter and tied the victory well in a good game by Guerschon Yabusele, Fabien Causeur and Mario Hezonja. UCAM suffers its second defeat in a row and remains in the large group fighting for the ‘Top 8’. One step above, chasing the leader, are four teams at 4-1.

Barça was the last to join at the end of the day, with a hard-fought victory (73-83) against Gran Canaria. Rokas Jokubaitis pulled the Catalans after another intense week, visiting Piraeus. The young Lithuanian reaffirmed himself as Roger Grimau’s best point guard, leading the culé team in the decisive minutes.

In addition, Àlex Abrines scored important triples and Willy Hernangómez, Joel Parra and Da Silva won the battle inside. Those from Las Palmas defended their Arena during the first half, but only the inspiration of Nicolás Brussino worked in attack. Jaka Lakovic’s men are falling behind without regularity in the table.

Meanwhile, Baskonia beat Casademont Zaragoza (80-85) in a match that was tied until the last actions. Vanja Marinkovic, with 21 points, was the Basque team’s top scorer. Likewise, Chris Jones, decisive during the week in the Euroleague, shone for Valencia Basket in the victory with his signature (59-61) over Río Breogán.

The fourth consecutive victory for Álex Mumbrú’s team, capable of defeating Fenerbahce on Friday, featured 17 points from their stellar point guard and, inside, Brandon Davies also excelled with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Galicians remain in the bottom zone with only one win this season, just like Zaragoza.

On the other hand, BAXI Manresa won another exciting match with a 92-91 victory against a Zunder Palencia team that still hasn’t won. Sagnia was the local hero with three seconds left making the winning basket. Badio, with 21 points, allowed that option at the Nou Congost to go eighth.
