Bu Yunchaokete Makes Impressive Debut on ATP Circuit at ATP Shanghai 2023

Bu Yunchaokete achieved his best ranking on the circuit last May at #164, a month after winning his first Challenger trophy in Seoul, Korea. Now, Bu makes his best debut on the ATP circuit at the ATP Shanghai 2023.

Being in his country is not usual for Yunchaokete, who trains at the Ferrero Tennis Academy in Villena: “I feel very good, I am very close to my home. It is the first time I have played an ATP tournament in China, it is something incredible. I feel very excited and I don’t feel much pressure, I just want to enjoy“, explains the 21-year-old Chinese man to the official ATP website, happy to be part of the draw in this Shanghai Masters 1000 thanks to an invitation from the tournament.

Mixed emotions with his first ATP victory

In his debut, Bu achieved victory against Miomir Kecmanovic with the Serbian’s retirement included in the third set, which leaves a bittersweet taste in the Asian: “I feel great, but I don’t want to celebrate too much because we haven’t finished the third set. When we high-fived at the end, he told me he was sick, so I hope he recovers soon. It has been a very special moment for me, I had many emotions. When I noticed that he had tears in his eyes, I told myself that he had to control me”.

His first ATP victory comes in a Masters 1000, something that does not usually happen on the circuit: “I am very happy, all the players are among the best. Many of them are my idols, whom I have watched for years growing up.”

I’m not nervous because I know that I have to be 100% focused, I have to work very hard to have a chance of beating my rival. On the other hand, I have a lot of confidence in myself because I think I am playing tennis well. In each and every detail, I can say that I trust myself”Bu commented at a press conference after the victory.
