The sailors Boris Herrmann and his partner Will Harris are going on a big tour again. The Transat Jacques Vabre is supposed to be the dress rehearsal for the Vendée Globe. Herrmann has two major advantages.

A relationship like the one between Boris Herrmann and Will Harris doesn’t happen often in professional offshore sailing. In what can sometimes be a tough business, sailors are often only hired by a team for one regatta or one stage. There they do their work on board and move on to the next yacht. The 42-year-old from Hamburg and his 28-year-old co-skipper from Great Britain have been sailing the world’s oceans together for Team Malizia for years.

If Herrmann has his way, the two on board now get along so well that they almost merge into one sailor with four arms and two brains. “Will and I know what move the other will do next. We look at each other and know what we think. We almost always immediately agree on the strategy,” says Herrmann, who will be competing in the Transat Jacques Vabre (TJV) this Sunday together with Harris.
