– For me, the topic of the captain is too exaggerated in Poland. There are eleven players on the pitch and the captain’s role is not that important, he said, to some extent avoiding responsibility for the team’s recent results. However, before Brzęczek decided to speak, there were a few seconds of silence after Mateusz Borek’s words – I look at Jurek Brzęczek and he is silent – he joked. Lewandowski immediately responded to Brzęczek’s words. – What I meant was that the captain can’t be the only one doing this. We need support from players who do not wear this armband, so that they can be and live with the entire national team before the match, said the FC Barcelona striker.
He also mentioned health problems that prevented him from playing for the national team. “I had a strained ligament in my ankle. Now I have to stabilize my leg in a brace and step by step I will do more and more things,” concluded Lewandowski.
Lewandowski suffered an ankle injury in the recent Champions League group stage match against FC Porto. The striker left the field in the 33rd minute and Barcelona won 1-0.
