Bitter diagnosis – Goretzka will be out for weeks

Leon Goretzka will be missing from Bayern for the time being: the 28-year-old, who had recently shown strong performances, had to undergo surgery and is out injured. Bitter news for Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel, who has been plagued by personnel concerns for weeks.
FC Bayern will have to do without national player Leon Goretzka in the next games. As the Munich team announced on Sunday, the 28-year-old suffered a metacarpal fracture in the 3-1 win against FSV Mainz 05. Goretzka has already undergone surgery and will miss Munich’s Champions League group game at Galatasaray Istanbul on Tuesday and the following games.
The club did not give an exact downtime. Goretzka was substituted in the 75th minute of the away game on Saturday; he had previously prepared Harry Kane’s 2-0 and scored the 3-1 himself. It was initially unclear whether he suffered a broken finger or another injury. “We hope that the hand injury is not that serious,” Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel said after the game on Saturday evening. A little later there was certainty.

Goretzka spoke up on Instagram on Sunday evening. “Good things to be back quickly,” he wrote alongside a photo that shows him in front of the hospital with his hand in a cast. “Thank you for your messages and well wishes.”
Major personnel concerns at Bayern
Tuchel has to cope with another personnel setback – the team has had personnel problems for weeks. He had already ruled out defender Dayot Upamecano (hamstring injury) and attacker Serge Gnabry (broken forearm) for the game in Istanbul, although both have recently returned to training.
