The table leader welcomes the third team: Göttingen have only played one game in the Bundesliga, but thanks to the 110:104 home win against Crailsheim they jumped straight to third place in the table and are ahead of teams that have two wins to their name. This is because the percentages (ratio of wins to games played) are taken into account first in the table. Vechta is also at 100 percent – three league games, three wins. Now there is a knockout game in the cup. “It’s fun, games like this are always special. It’s a game in which anything can happen,” says BG coach Olivier Foucart.

Vechta is the surprise team: The promoted team surprised with its four wins from four competitive games. After the success in the cup against Rostock, Vechta prevailed in the league against Bamberg, Bonn and Tübingen – all home games. “Everyone here is happy for each other, which shows that we are growing well together as a team,” said Rasta coach Ty Harrelson after the 103:72 win against Tübingen. “It is always difficult to play in Vechta. They have retained the enthusiasm from last season, play quickly and with a lot of self-confidence. “They also have a lot of good throwers,” says Foucart. The outstanding Rasta player is currently Tommy Kuhse (19.7 points and 7.7 assists on average).

BG Göttingen: Harper Kamp is still out

The BG has boosted its self-confidence: After being eliminated in the Champions League qualifying against Heroes Den Bosch, the Violets showed a fighting performance against Crailsheim. “Every win is important for a newly assembled team at the beginning of the season. But all was not well. We continue to work hard on tactical things, but we have to play with this energy every time,” says Foucart. Nothing has changed in the personnel situation; the injured Harper Kamp is still out.

BG players lead Bundesliga statistics: It’s strange: the categories points (Bodie Hume with 30), rebounds (Hume with 14), assists (Umoja Gibson with nine), steals (Gibson with five), blocks (Hume with three) and effectiveness (Hume with 40 ahead of Zach Ensminger with 26) are all led by BG players. This snapshot must be classified correctly: The statistics are the average values of the games. The Göttingen team has only had one game so far – and in that they won after two extra times. This meant the playing time was 50 minutes instead of the regular 40 minutes. Nonetheless, BG fans can enjoy looking at these statistics.

There are second division teams in the cup again

The cup has a new mode: After a 14-year break, second division teams are playing in the cup again this season. The first round included the six best teams from the 22/23 ProA season, the two relegated Bundesliga teams from last season and the teams that finished the last BBL season in ninth to 16th place. The play-offs participants from last season – which also includes the BG – are now in the round of 16, and Giessen, a second division team, is also represented there.

By the way: For reaching the quarter-finals, the teams will receive 50,000 euros, as BG managing director Frank Meinertshagen explained at the press conference at the start of the season. So from a financial perspective, moving forward would be worthwhile for the BG.
