Bezzecchi crashes during testing but remains in the race in Indonesia (video)

Five days after collarbone surgery, the Italian driver went to the ground, without gravity, during the first tests at Sentul this Friday.

Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati-VR46), declared fit one week after an operation for a broken collarbone but victim of a fall during the first practice sessions, will compete in the qualifying practice sessions for the Indonesian Grand Prix on Friday, the organizers said.

Third in the MotoGP championship standings, 54 points behind the leader, his compatriot Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), and 51 lengths behind the Spaniard Jorge Martin (Ducati-Pramac), the Italian rider still in the race for the world title has been declared fit Friday morning to participate in free practice on the Mandalika circuit on the island of Lombok.

But after 18 laps, the Italian crashed at full speed in turn 11 of the circuit and landed in the gravel. However, he managed to walk back to the stands alone and was then declared “fit” to take part in the qualifying practice in the afternoon, said the organizers, then his team.

Before his fall, he had achieved the 5th time in these free practices. The Italian was injured last Saturday during training at the ranch of Valentino Rossi, the owner of the VR46 team, and underwent surgery on Sunday.

He took tests on Friday morning upon his arrival in Lombok and received the green light to compete in free practice. “Barely five days after his collarbone surgery, +Bez+ is here and ready to give it a try!”wrote the MotoGP organizers on their official X account (formerly Twitter).

“Immediately after the operation I saw the possibility of trying to take part in the Grand Prix”the transalpine pilot explained on Wednesday. “We waited 48 hours and after the last medical consultations and a very intensive physiotherapy program until the last moment before departure, we decided with the team to try to go to Indonesia to be fit to ride”he added.

Several other riders are making their return this weekend in Indonesia, including the Spaniard Alex Rins (Honda-LCR), convalescing since his fractures to the tibia and fibula of his right leg in Mugello in early June and the Italian Enea Bastianini (Ducati ), victim of two fractures to his left hand and ankle during the Catalan GP in early September

Bezzecchi’s partner, the Italian Luca Marini (Ducati-VR46), who fractured his right collarbone during the Indian GP three weeks ago, is also present as is the Spaniard Alex Marquez (Ducati-Gresini ), who also broke three ribs in India and was absent from the last GP in Japan.
