Benoit Paire’s Controversial Behavior Reaches New Low at Challenger Tournament

Benoit Paire is certainly not a blank slate on the ATP tour. The 34-year-old Frenchman has made negative headlines several times in his career for gross unsportsmanlike behavior.

This week the tennis bad boy once again set a new low even for his own standards. At the Challenger tournament in Malaga he gave up early against the Spaniard Pedro Martinez when the score was 0:6, 2:4.

During the match, it seemed as if Paire would have preferred not to compete at all. He let the game pass him by with extreme listlessness.

Fans and media judge Paire harshly

Even the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” did not leave this performance uncommented: “Benoit Paire reached rock bottom with a regrettable performance in Malaga. It was a pathetic spectacle that outraged the audience and also left Pedro Martinez perplexed.”

Many fans on social networks demanded consequences from the ATP. However, there is still no official statement on this matter.

Paire himself said on his Instagram account: “It’s a complicated time for me. It’s up to me to find solutions to have fun again.”
