Ben Simmons: Rising from the Ashes to Reclaim All-Star Status

Ben Simmons is back with a vengeance. Unlike the silences of other times or measured comments, now the Brooklyn Nets player speaks from the ambition and desire to be not like before, but even a better player. This is how he expresses it in an interview granted to Esquire.

«We have a great opportunity to start from scratch and form a team that can surprise many people. And then individually, I want to get back to where I was. I want to be an All Star. I want to be better than an All Star. That’s where I want to be. I never say, ‘Well, if I’m lucky, maybe I’ll get a couple of votes for the star party.’ No, if that’s the case, I’d be perfectly fishing,” he says.

As for what he has done to now be so healthy and optimistic regarding the 2023-24 campaign, the New Yorkers point guard assures that he has made his own decisions, leaving aside external advice that at other times has not worked for him.

“I did it my way. I built my own team around me. I recovered. I blocked everything everyone thought I should do. I tried what other people wanted me to do and it didn’t work. So I thought, you know what? This is an opportunity for me to do it my way. I know that’s how things work for me. I have done this before. I have been an All Star, I have never missed the playoffs. I have been in those moments. At the end of the day it’s my career. “I prefer to go out ahead with my own sword,” he says.

Finally, he does not hide that he has had a really bad time. Beyond what the public may have thought, she explains that at times his body practically abandoned him to the point that any movement was a real ordeal.

«This is what people don’t know. I had a hard time walking and doing little things like climbing the stairs. I had knee and back pain just sitting in a car. The smallest things that seemed normal were a big struggle. She could also tell by the way she breathed. Because every time I was going to do something I felt compressed and trying to prepare myself to be prepared… So being able to get up right after this interview and walk is a blessing for me,” she says.
