Basketball Player Filiberto Rivera Retires After 20-Year Career in Puerto Rico

San Juan, Oct 6 (EFE).- The basket player of the Carolina Giants, Filiberto Rivera, announced this Friday his retirement from the basketball courts after a 20-year career, at the conclusion of the final series of National Superior Basketball (BSN) of Puerto Rico.

“The time has come, the time has come to say GOODBYE to basketball, my career as a professional basketball player culminates in an unforgettable, wonderful way, a dream come true,” he published in a message on his Instagram account.

A native of the municipality of Carolina, Rivera began his career in the BSN in 2000 with the Maratonistas de Coamo and was a member of the Puerto Rico basketball team.

Throughout his career he played with the Gallitos de Isabela, Atlético de San Germán, Vaqueros de Bayamón, Cariduros de Fajardo, Criollos de Caguas, Indios de Mayagüez, Santeros de Aguada, Gigantes y Cangrejeros de Santurce, among others.

“The treatment and affection that I received in each of the teams that I wore from childhood to becoming a professional will be unforgettable. There were many not very good moments, but there were more good moments that will remain in my heart forever,” added the athlete.

Likewise, he thanked “the people who in one way or another helped him as a player, but more importantly as a human being.”

For Rivera, his greatest victory was earning the respect of his “teammates and the love of the basketball world.”

He thanked his fans for making him “a better player” and supporting “an entire career.”

“With my heart in my hand I am retiring from basketball. Thank you. Fili 21,” Rivera concluded.
