Lionel Messi, who won the World Cup in Qatar with Argentina – the only title he was missing – is one of the top favorites for the award. If she wins it, it would be her eighth Ballon d’Or. In the women’s category, the favorite is Aitana Bonmatí, midfielder for Barcelona and the Spanish team, winner of the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand and one of the key pieces of Barcelona that won the treble ( League F, Champions League and Copa de la Reina). In Australia she was chosen the best player of the tournament.
