Badminton Ireland Appoints Chloe Magee as First Women in Sport and National Development Manager

Badminton Ireland has announced the appointment of Chloe Magee as the organisation’s first Women in Sport and National Development Manager.

This appointment is a significant step forward in their commitment to promoting gender equality in the world of badminton.

Magee is a three-time Olympian and joined Badminton Ireland in 2022. She played a critical role in the development of Badminton in Ulster as an Ulster Activation Officer. Her vast experience as a player and dedication to the sport make her an ideal fit for this crucial position.

Her appointment was announced in tandem with the launch of Badminton Ireland’s Women in Sport Strategy, further emphasising their dedication towards creating opportunities for women and girls to excel in Badminton.

The strategy recognises the importance of engaging teenage badminton players to ensure their continued involvement in the sport.

The objective is to make the Women in Sport Strategy the central focus of all their development efforts, including those with clubs, schools, and provincial branches.

Chloe Magee’s role as the Women in Sport and National Development Manager will be instrumental in bringing the strategy to life. By placing women and girls at the heart of grassroots and high-performance development, Badminton Ireland aims to drive meaningful change and create a lasting impact.

“The support of Sport Ireland was critical in bringing this role to life,” said Catherine Smyth, President of Badminton Ireland.

“Badminton Ireland shares their vision and mission, where women and girls have an equal opportunity to achieve their full potential while enjoying a lifelong involvement in sport.”

“We believe that the appointment of Chloe as our first Women in Sport and National Development Manager, coupled with the strategy document, will create a pathway towards making a true impact in this area.”

“As well as being a role model for so many across the badminton community, Chloe can now share her passion and use her exceptional experience to put pathways and structures in place to enable so many more to play and thrive in the sport she loves,” added Nora Stapleton, Director of Strategic NGB Programmes and Women in Sport Lead with Sport Ireland.
